If you've been diagnosed with elevated triglyceride levels, you were probably told to modify your diet and health habits. They are several things you can do when lowering triglyceride level. First, you have to eliminate many fats from your diet and control your intake of cholesterol. These levels of of fats in your bloodstream adversely affect your triglyceride levels. Eliminate red meats completely. Replace with white meat turkey or chicken. Also consumption of oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna and herring has been shown to not only be effective in lowering triglyceride level but increase your levels of high density lipoprotein or the "good cholesterol". Soy products or bean based burgers and are also good substitutes for beef.

Beans are high in protein and fiber and low in fat and calories. They are an excellent substitute for beef and other meats and can help lowering triglyceride level.When lowering your triglyceride levels, find products with the lowest amount of these saturated fat in it. Instead look for foods with higher monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. Choose unsalted raw peanuts, almonds, walnuts or pecans for a snack and fresh fruit of any kind. If you are overweight, you must lose weight to lowering triglyceride level. Watch calorie counts and sugar counts in products.

Drink water with a slice of fresh lemon or lime if you want a little flavor. Walk for 20 minutes a day, every day. Start out for ten minutes if you want, then slowly increase to as long as you want. You cannot walk too much! You will lose weight and feel better emotionally. Do not drink alcohol or smoke. Not engaging in these habits have been shown to significantly lower your triglyceride levels as well. If eliminating these drugs, and they are "drugs" is too difficult, ask your doctor for treatment options to help you quit.
